Cause Female Hair Loss and Preventing Hair Loss

Hair loss is embarrassing for many women, and for many, it can be a cause for alarm. Some women think that they have a disease, while others think that their conditions are no longer reversible. If you are experiencing hair loss, talk to your doctor first before making any diagnoses on your own, or buying unproven therapies for your condition. You may have a genetic form of hair loss, or it may be due to any of these factors.

- Childbirth can cause hair loss because most of the hairs that are on a woman’s head will go through the resting stage of the so-called hair cycle after delivery of a baby.

- Major stresses on one’s health can also cause hair loss. These may include severe bacterial, parasitic, or viral infections, a major surgery, or anything significant in a person’s life such as grief due to death in one’s family. This is a reversible condition but if it persists, it will require treatment.

- Some thyroid diseases cause hair loss because of hormonal imbalances.

- Proteins help build up and strengthen the hair, so if a woman has a low-protein diet, she can experience hair loss. In some cases, the hair loss can be so massive that the remaining hairs on the body can actually be pulled out easily by their roots. Iron deficiency can also cause hair loss, and this deficiency can be corrected by taking iron pills, and by returning lean meat to the diet.

- Some medications such as blood thinners may also cause shedding due to a small amount of expected side effects. Other drugs that may cause hair loss include prescription medication to treat acne, gout, or arthritis.

- Treatments for cancer, especially the drugs that are used in chemotherapy, will kill hair cells and will cause them to cease dividing. Hair will grow again, however, after chemotherapy is finished.

- Because of changes in hormonal levels, women who take birth control pills have reported losing some hair.
