Because hair loss is more often than not associated with men, most products, advices, treatments, and tips with regards to hair loss are directed to them. But the number of women afflicted with this “distressing” condition is growing each year, in fact there are almost 25 million American women who are experiencing hair loss today at various degrees of stages.

Even though there are less noticeable women with hair loss problems, it is them who take the matter more seriously. Women love their hair and would spend numerous hours making it look good. So if they lose their “crowning glory” this is a big blow to their self-image and their emotions.

It is natural that women would be more persistent in looking for treatment for hair loss. There are a variety of treatments for female hair loss available today and although they are not 100 percent effective, some have shown amazing positive results.

A treatment for female hair loss may be using topical creams and gels which are massaged in the area of the scalp where hair loss is noticed. There are also solutions which can be applied on the area to promote hair growth. Some experts en recommend natural remedies like herbs and plants which have wondrous properties to promote growth and nourishment of the hair.

The more drastic treatment would be hair transplant and other surgical procedures. This is an extreme step and should only be considered if a doctor allows it. Try to consider that not all male hair loss treatments are effective for women. So consult your doctor first.

The Devastating Effects of Sudden Female Hair Loss

May 26th, 2008 | | Hair Loss

As they say, a woman’s hair is her crowning glory. Some women spend countless hours in front of a mirror just to get their hair done right; some even spend hundreds to thousands of dollars in salon visits and hair products so that they would have beautiful looking hair. And if ever they lose their hair, you know it’s going to have a devastating effect.

Sudden female hair loss is a reality, although not as common as male hair loss, female baldness can have an overwhelming impact on a woman’s, emotional, psychological and social aspects. Why does this happen though?

There are a number of reasons. Sudden female hair loss can be due to an illness or ailment, it can be attributed to fast shifting hormones, like in menopause, or it may be due to genes or hereditary baldness. Sometimes, the medications that a woman ingests can contribute to hair loss as well.

The sad thing is that for the common sudden female hair loss, there is still no cure for it, especially if its genetic. For hormones, women may be prescribed with certain medications that can balance their hormones. And for medications that have side effects on a woman, like hair loss, discontinuing the medication and getting a substitute for it can work in bringing hair back.

Just always remember, consult your doctor first before doing any drastic solution to remedy your female hair loss problem, this could spell the difference in having a full head of hair and being outright bald.

For years, many research and studies have been attributed to this female condition. First off, genetics have been placed with much blame. Studies have shown strong indication that a family with a history of pattern baldness is highly likely to pass it on to their offspring.

Female pattern hair loss can also trace its trigger to the male hormone, testosterone, which is found in female also, albeit in smaller quantities. When a female experiences hormonal imbalance, this can also trigger female pattern hair loss.

Because there are different causes, then there are different treatments as well. That is why it imperative that if you notice hair loss that you go to your doctor immediately. Remember female pattern hair loss is different from the male variety, so you need different treatments.

The Female Pattern Baldness Treatment for You

May 15th, 2008 | | Hair Loss

Fact: Female Pattern baldness, exists, they are quite similar, yet somehow different from male pattern baldness.

Fact: Female pattern baldness can happen even when the person is still young, even below ten years old.

There have been a lot of half truths and rumors regarding female pattern baldness and this have caused much concern among the leading experts in female pattern baldness. This is because as more people believe in these half truths, the more women won’t be able to find the proper female pattern baldness treatment to fight female pattern baldness or Alopecia.

You have to understand first that female pattern baldness is caused by aging, hormones, and genetics. Some families do have in their family the tendency to go bald. While not everyone in the family will be afflicted with the condition, most especially women, there will be someone along the family line that will have it, even the women. Age and hormonal imbalance are also some of the causes blamed for female pattern baldness

Though there is no cure just yet for female pattern baldness, there are treatments that are available. The FDA has approved only one medication or drug to treat female pattern baldness, minoxidil. This though is effective for only about a quarter of those with female pattern baldness.

There are also some creams and gels which can act as a female pattern baldness treatment. They are applied to the affected area and massaged. Surgery or hair transplant is another option but it should only be regarded as the last option.

The Disappointing and Embarrassing Female Pattern Baldness

May 9th, 2008 | | Hair Loss

For women, their hair says a lot about themselves. A lot of statements can be shared with a fantastic hair, it can say sexy, sophisticated, glamorous, and exude confidence. Losing one’s hair can take all of these away. Female hair loss is so much more devastating than male hair loss. Some men deliberatel shave their hair, you will never see a woman do this, unless you’re Demi Moore, Sinead O’Connor or other big name stars who had to do it because they got paid big and it’s their job.

Female pattern baldness is somewhat slightly different from their male counterpart. In female pattern baldness, there is significant hair loss but being totally bald is a rarity. Most of the tame, a clean scalp is unheard of and there is still some hair left on the area where the pattern started.

Many experts say that female pattern baldness can be attributed to aging, hormones, and genetics. Different from hair loss, female pattern baldness has permanent effects. The male hormone testosterone which can also be found in female, albeit in lower numbers, also causes female pattern baldness.

When compared, male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness have different ways of happening. Sometimes, a woman may have thinning hair from the top of her head and yet have full hair on her hairline. Sometimes, female pattern baldness can occur all over the scalp but will not result to full baldness. This can happen though but only rarely.

The Mysteries of Female Hair Shedding

May 2nd, 2008 | | Hair Loss

Believe it or not, there are about 25 million American women who experience hair loss today. This might seem like a staggering figure but it’s true. Although not all of them are permanent or as severe as in men, this can be still quite disturbing. Imagine, you brush your hair like you used to, you notice numerous strands of hair in your brush, this is quite normal, but when you looked at the spot you just brushed, you see through your hair your scalp!

Shedding hair happens to all of us, but most of the time, our hair follicles replace this shed hair. For some women though, the shed hair is not replaced, thus resulting to a bald patch or a patch of scalp with very thin hair growth. Usually, this is of no major health concern, mostly; it is the social, emotional and psychological aspects that get battered.

Women shed hair for a number of reasons. With men, it is thought of that genetics plays a big part, but for women, hair shedding is usually attributed to metabolic problems that are usually temporary. Examples of this are pregnancy, extreme dieting and anorexia, hormone deficiency    , undergoing major surgery, illnesses or ailments, taking of medication, undergoing chemotherapy and so on.

But like men, women do experience pattern baldness as well. It is rare though that a women would go totally bald. Usually when a woman ages, at around her menopausal stage, she will soon shed hair. This is due to her hormones being unbalance.

Rediscovering the Female Hair Loss Product

April 27th, 2008 | | Hair Loss

Our hair says a lot about ourselves. If you have nice hair that is neat and well-styled, it shows that you care about yourself and how you look. It also shows that you respect the people around you because you want to look good for them. If you have disheveled hair, it shows otherwise. But what if you don’t have hair?

For women especially, hair loss can be very distressing and embarrassing, most especially if the hair loss is monumental. Although no one in their right mind would chop off their locks or shear them, most women who don’t have hair didn’t want it to happen to them.  That’s why there are now numerous female hair loss products that are being sold in the market. Some of these products actually do work while some are just outright ridiculous.

Most of the female hair loss products sold today aren’t cures, they are treatments that help out in providing nutrients to hair to strengthen the strand and to stimulate growth. Some of these products include hair loss shampoos, conditioners, sprays, brushes, creams, gels, and so on.

When choosing a female hair loss product, you have to make sure that it has been fully tested and is approved by the FDA. Better yet, consult with your doctor first. It would be useless to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars of your hard earned money for something that may not have any effect at all, or worse, just have an adverse effect on you.

Female Hair Loss Prevention

April 22nd, 2008 | | Hair Loss

There have been lots of myths and theories being told about female hair loss. I have heard so many of them through the years. Some say that female hair loss is caused by wearing tight wigs and hats, over using extra strong hair products, and so on and so forth. The sad thing though, there is no solid fact that explains why hair loss happens all of a sudden, unlike hair loss caused by medication, chemotherapy, medication side effects, and unbalanced hormones. Changes in hormone levels due to the menopause and pregnancy are probably the most common causes facing a large percentage of women

The tough part is fighting an unknown nemesis. If you don’t know what you’re fighting against, you don’t what weapon you will need. And since in hair loss, there are several theories as to what causes them, it is hard to have a fool proof method of preventing it from happening.

For women that haven’t experienced hair loss yet, preventing it would come in the form of proper care and maintenance. If your family is predisposed to having hair loss, then you may be able to make use of some of the female hair loss prevention products being sold presently. There are shampoos and hair care products which provides nutrients to the hair, scalp and hair follicles to prevent them from weakening and stopping hair production.

For those who have noticed that their hair is already starting to thin out, preventing further damage may be done by applying topical medication prescribed by your doctor to promote hair growth. Make sure though that the product you use is recommended by your doctor to ensure that you are safe.

Discover the Female Hair Loss Causes

April 16th, 2008 | | Hair Loss

You’d think that as we become more technologically advanced that hair loss would soon be a thing of the past. But in fact, more and more women are now experiencing hair loss. And surely, for most women, this is an appalling situation, one that can give a downright fright.

The problem with the cure is that it can’t be produced; this is because the real causes of hair loss haven’t been fully determined yet. There are a number of causes that can contribute to hair loss, but none of them have been fully proven, although many factors pinpoint to their contribution.

Primarily, experts believe that female hair loss is passed down genetically. Some families are predisposed to lose their hair at some point of their lives, even the women in the family. But not everyone in the family experiences this. Something acts as a trigger to hair loss and experts have not been able to determine this trigger.

Some studies tend to lean towards hormones. As women age, during their menopausal period, their hormones become unbalanced and this also causes hair loss. Usually, taking medication to balance the hormones is enough to stop hair loss.

Having an illness or a disease can also lead to female hair loss. That is why when you experience hair loss, especially if the shedding is fast, you must see a doctor. They can provide you a proper diagnosis and recommend the best treatment to eliminate causes of female hair loss.
